PRESS RELEASE

Silver Lining to the health and environment in Imperial County

No individual or organization have achieved so much in favor of the health of the Imperial County in such a short time! Call it a silver lining – despite the tremendous health and environment toll from the New River clean-up efforts, Governor Newsom and the Legislature secured the proposed $28 million for the New River Improvement Project. The ICHC praises Governor Gavin Newsom and Assembly member Eduardo Garcia for creating another step forward in California’s continued strong support for the Imperial County. The funds mark an unparalleled progress of intensive and collaborative effort, as outlined in the revised State’s budget.

We are encouraged when our elected officials become part of the fabric of our community and the support they provide in response to and meet their communities’ needs. It is a vital part in sustaining and enhancing the social and economic prospects and environmental quality of Imperial County. We can now begin to build local capacity in recognition of the need for further collaboration at the front-line to exploit new opportunities, and deliver the improved services and effective leadership we all want to see.

Moving forward, we will continue to work together in a constructive partnership to deliver high the quality of public health that everyone has the right to expect and improve the natural environment in Imperial County. We can now show the residents of Calexico and the citizens of Imperial County that the planning and the good work is paying off. This “silver lining” should be interpreted to mean we can not let down our guard; rather we will get through this – maybe even stronger than before!
